Liverpool Keep Quadruple Dream Alive Until Final Day With 2-1 Comeback Win Over Southampton

Liverpool Keep Quadruple Dream Alive Until Final Day With 2-1 Comeback Win Over Southampton

It's going down to Sunday.

Liverpool have ensured their quadruple dream will live on until the final day after running out 2-1 winners over Southampton this evening.

The Saints went ahead through Nathan Redmond inside 13 minutes after his curling effort deflected in off James Milner.

Jurgen Klopp made nine changes from Saturday's victory in the FA Cup final, and one of those changes got Liverpool back in the game just before the half hour mark.

Takumi Minamino rifled in at the near post to draw Jurgen Klopp's side level.

The Reds came into the game knowing they needed a win to have any chance of being crowned Premier League champions on the final day.

Current league leaders Manchester City started the evening four points clear with a better goal difference, meaning a draw would've all but guaranteed a fourth title in five years.

Liverpool lost Joe Gomez to injury at the break and with no Trent Alexander-Arnold in the squad, he was replaced by captain Jordan Henderson.

Southampton stayed compact in the second half but came undone from a corner after relentless Liverpool pressure.

Joel Matip headed home after Mohammed Elyounoussi unsuccessfully cleared his lines.

It means the title race will now be decided on Sunday, with Liverpool hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield and City welcoming Aston Villa to the Etihad.

Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup already in addition to the FA Cup and will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month.

Klopp recently slammed Liverpool's fixture schedule, claiming his team should've been allowed to play on Wednesday.

That's the date of the Europe League final when Rangers take on Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

"[We played] 120 minutes on Saturday, then we play Tuesday. Come on," he fumed. We could have played Wednesday but can't because of the Europa League final, right?

"Ahhh, UEFA, my friends! We could have played Thursday?! I have to sit here and say this.

"Nobody thinks about it apart from me."
