Newcastle legend Alan Shearer claims a 'little crack' has appeared with Liverpool star

All time premier league top scorer Alan Shearer has told BBC Sport that he believes a ‘little crack’ has appeared with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

Shearer is referencing the 23 year-olds sending off against Crystal Palace last month, which saw him serve a 3 match ban after he headbutted Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

Nunez, who was clearly fired up during the match, reacted in the wrong way and Shearer now believes Liverpool’s big money summer signing can be ‘pushed to breaking point’.

After missing the Reds’ games against Manchester United, Bournemouth and Newcastle, Nunez was thrown straight back into the starting line-up against Merseyside rivals Everton, replacing Robert Firmino.

The two sides played out a goalless draw in front of a packed Goodison Park and Nunez did not have the impact he would’ve liked, but he was seen taunting Conor Coady after his goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.

Here is what the former Newcastle striker had to say about the £85 million man and how he may be targeted by opposition defenders this season.

“[Darwin Nunez will be targeted] It is not only going to happen (against Everton),” said Shearer.

“It is going to happen in the future as well because a little crack has appeared. If you didn’t already know with Nunez then you saw the reaction with Joachim Anderson”

“So it is going to happen, he is going to get wound up, people have seen now that he has got that little chink in his armour – that he can be pushed to breaking point.

“Some great players, this is what makes them tick. They have got that little bit of devil in them. They enjoy it and get a kick out of that.”

Whilst the striker’s aggression can certainly come in handy at time, it is important that he learns to control it in order to avoid a repeat of last month’s incident against Palace.
