"I think" - Graeme Souness makes claim about £140k-a-week Liverpool star that will excite fans

Liverpool's Darwin Nunez will be a success at the club, Graeme Souness has claimed

Graeme Souness has stated that Liverpool's new signing Darwin Nunez will be an ‘outstanding success’ at the club.

Nunez arrived at Anfield from Benfica earlier this summer for a record fee of up to £85 million.

The Uruguayan forward is expected to fill the void left by the departing Sadio Mane, who was a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s successful side for several seasons.

Klopp handed Nunez his Liverpool debut last Saturday in their Community Shield fixture against City, and the 23-year-old scored a late goal to secure a 3-1 victory over the Citizens.

Sky Sports pundit Souness believes the striker will kick on from scoring this important goal and prove to be an important player for the Merseyside club.

Speaking on TalkSPORT , the former Liverpool.player said: “The boy, Nunez, I think he will be an outstanding success."

"I terms of his size and he wants to run forward without the ball, I think he would be a great addition.”

Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions last season for Benfica, so he arrives in England with a goal-scoring pedigree.

However, there is an expectation that he may need time to acclimatise to the Premier League before we see him thriving on a weekly basis.

The likes of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota will be competing with the Uruguay international, who boasts great physical capabilities to compliment his excellent finishing and off the ball movement.

The marquee signing replacing Mane is the only significant change to a Liverpool squad that came within two games of winning the quadruple last season.

Klopp has added youngsters Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho from Aberdeen and Fulham respectively, but both are likely to make an impact in the mid to long-term.

Meanwhile, fringe players Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and Neco Williams have all moved on, perhaps leaving the Reds with reduced depth. Nevertheless, another title charge is expected.

Liverpool take on Fulham this weekend in their first match of the new Premier League season, and you can find key details on how to watch the game here.
