Much has been made of Darwin Nuñez’s open goal miss against Manchester United in Thailand, but Joel Matip's latest comments suggest Liverpool fans shouldn’t be worried.
Matip has revealed to Liverpool’s club website that Nuñez “made my life quite hard” when the pair faced up against each other in the Champions League earlier this year.
The Cameroonian says he is “really happy” that Nuñez is now wearing a Liverpool shirt and he is “looking forward to seeing him score goals for” Liverpool.

And he isn’t the first Liverpool centre-back to heap praise on the Uruguay striker.
Before Nuñez even joined Liverpool, Virgil Van Dijk noted that the former Benfica man was one of the most difficult opponents he’s faced in his career.
High praise for a man who is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football, or any football at all in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
He may need a while to acclimatise to the demands of a new division, but Liverpool fans can be comfortable in the knowledge that their new signing has top, top talent.

And if Nuñez does initially struggle at Anfield, it’s not like Liverpool don’t have other options in forward areas.
Diogo Jota has shown he is well suited to playing down the middle when necessary.
Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino, something of a veteran now, is more than capable of combining with wingers either side of him in a false 9 role and enabling the likes of Jota, Salah, and Diaz to score freely.
As a big money signing, there’s always pressure on a striker to score goals.

But in a team which creates as many chances as Liverpool do, Nuñez will be confident he can pick up at Liverpool where he left off at Benfica.
And off the back of Mo Salah’s contract extension, Liverpool fans can feel safe in the knowledge they’ll have one of the best goal scorers in world football sticking around for a few more seasons.
