Jurgen Klopp mulling new role for Darwin Nunez - but he will be unleashed against Tottenham

Liverpool are reportedly considering a new role for Reds star Darwin Nunez vs Spurs.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering changing the role of Reds star Darwin Nunez ahead of his side's trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Nunez has been in superb form for Liverpool in recent weeks, finding the net in five of his last seven appearances.

It took time for the Uruguay international to hit his stride after moving from Benfica in the summer.

Klopp revealed how the forward has been suffering from homesickness, while the player himself admitted that his lack of knowledge of English proved difficult for him in his early months at the club.

He now has seven goals and two assists in 15 appearances for Liverpool, and is now starting to show exactly why the club spent an initial fee of £64 million to bring him to Merseyside.

However, while he was brought in as a central striker, Nunez is a versatile forward - and Klopp is reportedly considering a switch in role for Sunday's trip to Spurs.

Darwin Nunez role change?

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are considering moving Nunez to the left wing for the Spurs clash.

That would allow Klopp to revert back to a 4-3-3 formation that has brought him so much success at Liverpool. Roberto Firmino could start up front, with Mohamed Salah on the right.

The German boss has rotated his squad in attacking areas over recent weeks, with injuries to left-sided duo Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota not helping the manager's cause.

Nunez moving to the left wing could be a short-term solution for Klopp, with Diaz and Jota not returning to action until after the World Cup.

The Uruguayan came off the bench during the 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday, and occupied the left wing position.

Nunez scored the second goal in the match, a 98th-minute tap-in that sealed the victory.

Now, with Klopp assessing his options for that position, the 22-year-old could get the nod as he attempts to add to his growing goal tally, and end Liverpool's two-game winless run in the Premier League.
