Conor McGregor has ‘requested information’ regarding the sale of Liverpool

Reds owners Fenway Sports Group are reportedly ready to sell.

MMA legend Conor McGregor has revealed he has requested information regarding the potential sale of Premier League club Liverpool.

It was reported on Monday afternoon that Fenway Sports Group have put Liverpool up for sale. According to The Athletic, a full sales representation has been presented to any interested parties.

A statement from FSG said: “There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.

“FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.

“FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”

Since the news broke, there have been many speculations about the next potential owners of Liverpool. And now, McGregor has appeared to throw his name in the hat.

A fan on social media asked McGregor to buy Liverpool, and the Irishman replied: “I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club! @LFC.”

Fans were quick to react to McGregor’s tweet.

One said: “Swear you’re a united fan? Got love for you Conor but please leave my club be.”

Another joked: “They're worth 4 billion not 4 million.”

A third fan added: “You support United, so no thanks.”

Ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup match against Derby County on Wednesday, assistant manager, Pep Lijnders was quizzed about the sale of the club.

He said: “The statement was clear.

“It’s nothing new for a club to try and find investors. They are trying to take the club forward. We knew before [the statement was released], of course. We knew about the statement but nothing more than you guys [reporters] knew.”

Lijnders also stated that the staff and players are fully focused on the task at hand. The Dutchman added: “How did it distract us? This is what I like about our club. We are so focused. There was a small discussion between Jürgen and me but from that moment on we started focusing [on] a big game coming up.”
