Liverpool could make move for future England star after Pep Guardiola 'recommendation'

After curtailing their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, Liverpool could make a move for another future England star this summer.

Liverpool are in the market for midfield additions this season following an underwhelming season in Merseyside.

The impending departures of Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has placed extra pressure on Jurgen Klopp, who is tipped for a major overhaul to his squad this summer.

The German stuck a pin in his pursuit of England international Bellingham last month due to the extortionate transfer fees involved.

However, the Reds could make make a move for another English talent, with Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott Scott linked with a move to Anfield, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 19-year-old was awarded the Championship Young Player of the Year Award in April, and has been called up to Ian Foster's England squad for the under-20s World Cup.

Scott will be joined by Liverpool defender Jarrel Quansah in Argentina, having recently signed a new contract at the Merseyside club.

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been highly complimentary of Scott, following City's 3-0 victory over Bristol City in the FA Cup fifth round.

What did Guardiola say about Scott?

Guardiola labelled Scott "an unbelievable player" after the match, following an assured performance against the Premier League champions.

His word were echoed by current manager Nigel Pearson who has waxed lyrical about the teenager, admitting it will be difficult to fend off interest from other clubs this summer.

"I think he'll play for England and I think he'll go on to the top of the game," Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol. "We want him to continue to play for us for as long as possible but we'll see how that goes."

"When you see players being able to match one of the best sides in the world it is pretty impressive really," said the 59-year-old.

"For a player to be able to play against a top side like that and it look no different, in some ways he looked even better than he has done in the Championship. It's a testament to how good he can be."
