Liverpool's asking price for Diogo Jota revealed with the club willing to sell this summer

Liverpool have set their asking price for Diogo Jota with the Reds potentially open to selling the attacker this summer, according to a fresh report.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been rejuvenated in recent weeks, after enduring a tumultuous season plagued by injury and a loss of form.

Of course, their resurgence was best evidenced on Sunday, when they inflicted bitter rivals Manchester United to a record 7-0 loss at Anfield. It’s the heaviest defeat United have suffered since Boxing Day 1931.

In turn, despite a largely dismal season the Reds are now just three points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand.

And as new signings Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez both begin to prove their worth, Jota’s place in the team looks more uncertain.

Indeed, if reports are to be believed the 26-year-old could leave Anfield in the summer.

Jota to leave Liverpool?

According to Football Transfers, Liverpool will demand €70million [£62million] for Jota in the summer.

While the report claims the player is happy at Liverpool, the increased competition in his position could drastically limit his game time.

Though Roberto Firmino is leaving Merseyside in the summer, Jota will still be competing with Gakpo, Nunez, Luis Diaz and Fabio Carvalho for a place in Klopp’s forward line.

Jota moved to Merseyside from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and netted 14 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club, before racking up a further 21 the following campaign.

However this term, the attacker has battled calf and hamstring injuries, which forced him out of the World Cup and the majority of Liverpool’s campaign.

On his injury battle, the player told the Liverpool programme: "I had a strange calf injury. They said to me they haven't seen it before, most of the people, so we needed to ask for the help of some specialists as well to try and get over it and of course to give it a little bit more time because of the complexity and just to be safe.

"But yes, it was very hard, a long time. The results, to be honest, didn't help as well so it was very frustrating to see things happening and not be able to help in any way - well apart from the dressing-room talks, but not on the field.”
