Liverpool could hijack move for 'world class' midfielder James Maddison

Liverpool could hijack move for 'world class' midfielder James Maddison

This came out of nowhere.

Liverpool could make a move for Leicester star James Maddison this summer, according to fresh reports.

Jurgen Klopp is in the market for midfield recruits, following a turbulent season in Merseyside.

Jude Bellingham had emerged as the club's priority transfer target. However, the extortionate transfer fees involved forced the Reds boss to look elsewhere.

And the next name rumoured with a move to Anfield is Maddison, who is expected to be the subject of interest from an array of Premier League clubs this summer.

Newcastle, Tottenham and, more recently, Arsenal have all been linked with the England international, suggesting a bidding war could be on the cards.

Maddison has made it clear he will move on from the King Power Stadium regardless of the Foxes' Premier League status.

While Newcastle have surfaced as frontrunners for his signature. Although news of Liverpool's interest could give the 26-year-old a major headache.

Maddison to Liverpool?

Journalist Graeme Bailey told Team Talk that Liverpool could become a 'major player' in the race for Maddison this summer.

Bailey admitted that Newcastle have a long-standing interest in the Three Lions star, with the entire board unanimous in their pursuit.

However, he also revealed that a deal was far from agreed, stating: “Newcastle also know what sort of price the deal will be, however, there is a lot of interest. Newcastle will not have a clear run at him.

“Sources close to the player insist there are a number of clubs showing an interest. We know Tottenham have always been big fans and remain so, whilst I wouldn’t rule out Liverpool coming in for him.

“This is not a done deal in terms of where he is going to go, far from it.”

James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and loanee Arthur Melo are all set to leave Anfield when the season comes to an end, with Klopp allegedly hunting more 'dynamism, power and creativity in his engine room'.

While Maddison certainly provides the latter, he also has the necessary Premier League experience to fit in from the get-go.
