Liverpool plot move to sign 'next Jude Bellingham' but face strong competition

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Birmingham midfielder George Hall - a player who has already been compared to Jude Bellingham.

Hall, 18, came through the Blues youth academy and has featured regularly in the first team this season under John Eustace.

He has made 20 appearances for the club since making his senior debut in January, featuring on 18 occasions this term.

He has one goal and one assist to his name, netting his first senior goal in a 1-1 draw against Watford in August.

Manager Eustace has described him as a 'brilliant player', and gave an assessment of his quality compared to other young players in the league.

He explained: "For me, George Hall is one of the top young players in the league. He's a very effective player, whether he starts or we have him coming off the bench."

Hall has already gained comparisons to Bellingham, who made his senior debut for the club aged 16. Former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes he can follow in Bellingham's footsteps and play at the highest level.

Bellingham was only at St. Andrew's for a season before making the move to Borussia Dortmund, and his performances at domestic and international level have attracted some of Europe's giants to attempting to secure his signature.

One of those clubs is Liverpool, and whilst they are still very much involved in the Bellingham chase, they also reportedly have one eye on a potential successor at the Blues.

Liverpool interested in George Hall

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined Leeds and Everton in the chase to sign Hall, although Eustace wants to keep him at Birmingham.

A move for the youngster would not be a surprise, given that the Reds have scouted the Championship market on a number of occasions in recent seasons.

They have brought in Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho when they were at Fulham - then in the second tier on both occasions. Klopp's side also brought in Ben Davies from Preston North End in 2021, although he failed to make a senior appearance for the club.

But any move for Hall could run into trouble because of Everton, with the same source claiming the Toffees see him as a player that could play for them immediately.

The England youth international may have a big decision to make in January as clubs begin to strengthen their efforts to bring him in.
