"Get a grip" - Liverpool told they have zero chance of bringing in brilliant midfielder

Liverpool won't sign Jude Bellingham, Darragh MacAnthony claims

Peterborough United chairman and Liverpool fan Darragh MacAnthony has said that the Reds have little chance of signing Jude Bellingham this summer.

Bellingham and Liverpool’s mutual interest is probably the worst-kept secret in elite football, but the Posh man believes that the Reds’ transfer strategy will stop them from securing the Borussia Dortmund man.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to Anfield for several years since his departure from Birmingham City, and is expected to leave Germany next year.

Jurgen Klopp's side are entering a transitional phase in that area of the field. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are out of contract this season, whilst Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are on the wrong side of 30. Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott are still inexperienced.

It is rumoured that the 17-time capped England international would cost the Reds over £100m, with the German side likely to rework a release clause into a potential contract extension.

MacAnthony, who is often very vocal on social media, has spoken about Bellingham on his very own Hard Truth podcast.

“Do people seriously think Liverpool are signing Jude Bellingham? Get a grip!

“With Man City, Chelsea and the wealth out there, Real Madrid, you think Bellingham is going to Liverpool? Don’t waste your time on that one, it’s never going to happen.

“That boy, I think he’ll go to Man City, they’ll sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, Gundogan will go back to Germany and spend their money.”

A move to Pep Guardiola’s side would reunite him with former Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, who has started his time in England superbly by scoring three hattricks in three home Premier League games and 19 goals in all competitions in 12 matches.

It’s difficult to disagree with MacAnthony on the financial part, but with the attraction of playing under Jurgen Klopp whilst usurping Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson, it could be too tempting an opportunity to pass up.
