Liverpool on course for transfer "bombshell" - Klopp pushing FSG to make it happen

Liverpool have endured several injuries this term.

Attacking duo Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are both out until after the World Cup, while club captain Jordan Henderson and midfield maestro Thiago Alcantra have suffered niggling injuries throughout the campaign.

With the Reds in the lowly Premier League position of 9th place, some 15 points off Arsenal at the summit, Klopp is looking to revitalise his squad with some new faces.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, the Liverpool boss has asked club owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), to make a “financial effort” to sign Llorente.

The Spaniard could allegedly be sold following Atletico’s dramatic failure to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

Diego Simeone’s side needed a win at Bayer Leverkusen to secure their place in the last 16, and after twice coming from behind to bring the score to 2-2, Atletico were awarded a penalty in the 99th minute.

Yannick Carrasco stepped up and saw his spot kick saved, only to then inadvertently deflect Reinildo's goal-bound shot over the bar - an absurd finale to what was a dismal night for Spanish football (Barcelona were knocked out just hours earlier).

The failure has left a hole in the club’s finances that allegedly needs to be filled, likely with departures in the next two transfer windows.

Llorente is said to be one of the players “most likely to leave”, given the 27-year-old form has declined in recent seasons.

Nevertheless, the publication claims that Klopp is determined to sign the Spain international and has pushed FSG to make a move for Llorente.

Indeed despite Simeone’s “blind confidence” in Llorente, the Spanish side would be willing to sanction the move and allow the player to become one of Liverpool’s “bombshell” arrivals, either in January or the summer.
