Liverpool target 'unsure of his status' at Premier League club, opening the door for Anfield move

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is reportedly 'unsure of his status' at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk, opening the door for Liverpool to sign him.

The 24-year-old allegedly snubbed a new contract before the World Cup, believing the wage offered was too low in comparison with other senior players.

Mount is thought to be seeking treble his current £80,000 per-week pay cheque, with Chelsea's offer 'considerably lower' than what the likes of Raheem Sterling are earning at the club.

The Daily Mail report the both parties are still ‘a long way apart’ from agreeing terms following Chelsea’s huge January spending, where they splashed more than £300million on new additions.

The report adds Mount is eager to play an important part in the club’s future, with the influx of Fernandez and Mudryk causing concern.

Mount has started 18 of Chelsea's 21 games in the Premier League this season. However, he has managed just three goals and two assists in that time - a stark difference from his 11 goals and 10 assists last season.

Liverpool have 'plans in place' to sign Mount

Meanwhile, The Guardian report that Liverpool are monitoring Mount's situation closely and have been 'putting plans in place for a summer move'. Whilst Juventus are also thought to be interested in the 24-year-old.

Jurgen Klopp's midfield is in dire need rejuvenation, with an ageing group of players coming towards the end of their contracts.

A humiliating 3-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday has left them 10th in the table, 11 points adrift of the Champions League places.

The club have been linked with Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham, Wolves’ Matheus Nunes and Chelsea's Mount. However, the Blues are thought to want to keep the Englishman at Stamford Bridge and are unwilling to sell to a rival.

But with his form suffering, former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Ince has urged Mount to move on from Chelsea.

"Since the change of manager, he’s lost his way and Chelsea are trying to sign anyone they can at the moment so there’s going to be a rejig at Stamford Bridge," Ince told BoyleSports.

"Sometimes it’s good to have a new challenge because sometimes you can go stale if you stay at one club for too long.

"Mount is at an age where he needs to be playing every week. He’s a very talented player."
