Liverpool held 'internal discussions' over Caicedo transfer as Brighton reject bid

Liverpool held 'internal discussions' over Caicedo transfer as Brighton reject bid

Liverpool held “internal discussions” over the prospect of signing Moises Caicedo, according to a fresh report.

Liverpool held “internal discussions” over the prospect of signing Moises Caicedo, according to a fresh report.

Brighton have rejected a second bid from Arsenal for Caicedo, and have told the Premier League leaders the midfielder is not for sale.

The Gunners’ latest bid is thought to be in the region of £70million.

On Friday Caicedo informed Brighton in an open letter that he wanted a move. The club have since told him to take time off until after Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Chelsea also had an offer in the region of £55million turned down by the Seagulls last week, while Liverpool have also thought to have registered an interest in the player.

Liverpool’s internal discussions over Caicedo

According to GOAL, Liverpool are admirers of Caicedo, and have held internal discussion as to why the club had not approached the player when he left Ecuador two years ago.

If the wantaway midfielder fails to secure a move before the January deadline he is likely to have his pick of clubs in the summer.

It’s possible Brighton will look to cash in at the end of the season, when Caicedo has just two years on his contract, as they have done successfully in the past with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Ben White, Leandro Trossard and Marc Cucurella.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi hinted that Caicedo would likely secure a move in the summer if a January move does not materialise.

The Seagulls boss said: "Moises is a good guy, we will see tomorrow and the next days what happens.

"We hope he stays with us until the end of the season. In life you can make mistakes.

“For everyone there are many solutions. We will see the best solution for him and for us."

Liverpool have endured a tumultuous season, and are currently languishing in ninth in the Premier League.

While Reds boss Jurgen Klopp admitted the club would be doing no further business in January, the club will look to rejuvenate their ageing midfield in the summer.

They have been linked with Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham and World Cup Player of the Tournament Enzo Fernandez.
