Liverpool could sign the 'new Pedri' for just £26m, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested

Liverpool could sign the 'new Pedri' for just £26m, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing a player described as the 'new Pedri'.

Liverpool are interested in signing Las Palmas attacking midfielder Alberto Moleiro, according to reports in Spain - but they could face competition.

The Reds are keen on recruiting a new midfielder in the upcoming transfer windows, with the position seen by fans as an area that could do with a refresh.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both out of contract in the summer, along with James Milner, while the midfield department as a whole has suffered from injury problems this term.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been heavily linked with the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, while Youri Tielemans and Moises Caicedo are also reportedly names of interest.

The latest link, to 19-year-old sensation Moleiro, has come as somewhat of a surprise - and he is more adept slightly further forward - but he could be an ideal signing.

Liverpool keen on 'new Pedri' Moleiro

Spanish outlet AS report that it is Barcelona who are heavily keen on the signing of Moleiro, who plays in the Spanish second division.

At just 19 years of age, he has already been described as the 'new Pedri' by Goal - a player who can feature on the left wing or in an attacking midfield role.

Moleiro's passing ability and control is one of his major strengths, while he also possesses plenty of pace.

Another reason for the comparison is that Pedri came through the Las Palmas youth system, in the age group above Moleiro, before joining Barcelona in 2020. Other famous graduates include Vitolo and Ruben Castro.

AS claim that the Spanish youth international has a release clause of €30 million (around £26 million).

However, that could rise to €60m (around £52m) if Las Palmas get promoted this season, meaning a January move could be on the cards.

It is added that Real Madrid rival Barca for the player's signature, alongside Borussia Dortmund.

And interest also comes from Liverpool, with Klopp reportedly a fan of the player.

It would certainly be a different profile of signing compared to Bellingham, but Moleiro's versatility, potential growth and varied skillset could make him a player for the Reds to keep a very close eye on in the near future.
