Jurgen Klopp hails Trent Alexander-Arnold as 'absolutely insane' after West Ham win

Klopp hailed Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was stunned by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s “insane” performance against West Ham.

Last night Liverpool’s hopes of European football next term received a major boost as the Reds came from a goal down to win 2-1 at West Ham.

The Hammers took the lead after 12 minutes through Lucas Paqueta, only for Cody Gakpo to equalise six minutes later.

And the second half saw Joel Matip net a bullet header that ultimately proved to be the winner.

There was a late scare for Klopp’s men however, after Thiago Alcantara handled in the penalty area, yet, the incident was waved away by on-field referee Chris Kavanagh and Neil Swarbrick on video assistant referee duty.

While Champions League football appears beyond Liverpool, the win takes them sixth in the Premier League, above Tottenham on goal difference.

Klopp praises Alexander-Arnold

Klopp singled out Alexander-Arnold’s performance after the West Ham victory.

Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle Klopp exclaimed: “The stuff Trent [Alexander-Arnold] played – wow. It was absolutely insane.”

Alexander-Arnold was central to Cody Gakpo’s opener on Wednesday evening, setting up the Dutchman with a cute square pass.

Klopp also praised his team's performance generally, adding that they looked back to their best during the clash.

“Maybe the boys have found their feet back, and I liked the football we played”' Klopp continued.

“The first half was the best we have played in ages, it was convincing, it was us and we played football.

“We've had games this season where people have not recognised us and today we showed it is still in us and I'm pleased with that.

“We played really well, controlled the game – then bang 1-0 down. But we kept playing, scored an incredible goal, kept playing, kept moving them then scored in the second half.

"We needed a set piece but I'm more than happy with that. Yesterday Joel [Matip] had five of them [headers] and put them all in the fence but today put it in the net. I'm really pleased for Joel that he showed up today as it's not been his season so far.”
