Wolves to wear green armbands against Liverpool in Premier League first

A moment of Premier League history.

Wolves will make Premier League history by wearing green armbands against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool travel to face Wolves at Molineux in their third competitive meeting in recent weeks.

The two sides drew 2-2 at Anfield in the third round of the FA Cup on January 7, before Liverpool won the reverse fixture 1-0 on January 17.

They meet again this weekend in the Premier League in a crucial match for both teams.

Liverpool are currently 10th in the table and must win to keep alive their slim hopes of a top four finish, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently 10 points adrift of the Champions League places.

Wolves, meanwhile, are 17th and are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference, despite their upturn in form under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

Why are Wolves wearing green armbands?

The match will feature a piece of history, with Wolves confirming they will wear green armbands for the game in a first for the Premier League.

The gesture is to support the Green Football Weekend, an environmental awareness project which aims to draw attention to football's role in the climate crisis and how the sport can help promote sustainability.

Wolves have also launched their own One Pack, One Planet project, which aims to promote environmental sustainability.

The club has made four key commitments, including a pledge to become net zero by 2040.

Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley has spoken of his pride at raising awareness on the subject, having been named an ambassador for project.

"Climate change, and how we can tackle it, is one of the most important conversations we can be having at this time, and I am really pleased Wolves are playing their part by launching One Pack, One Planet," Bentley said, as reported by The Mirror.

"Sometimes climate change can feel overwhelming, but if we all make small changes in our lives and contribute to help the future of the planet in little ways, over time it will make a big difference.

"I am really pleased to become an ambassador for One Pack, One Planet, and on Saturday, we will be proud to play our part in raising awareness of the subject by being the first Premier League team to wear green armbands on Green Football Weekend."
