Why Manchester City won't have the Champions League badge on their kit if they win it

Why Manchester City won't have the Champions League badge on their kit if they win it

City fans were getting excited to see their new kit being adorned by the Champions League badge next season but it won't be the case.

Manchester City fans are already getting excited by the prospect of being European champions next season, but they've missed one huge detail when it comes to their kit.

City dealt with Real Madrid in a way no other side have in the Champions League for a long time, as they absolutely battered them in the semi-final last month.

Even before the performance whichever side went through would have been huge favourites in the final against Inter Milan tonight.

The nature of the win over Real only furthered that thinking and had fans desperate to go and see their side get crowned best in Europe for the first time.

Fans will certainly have to pay a fair whack in order to get themselves to Istanbul to see the game against Simone Inzaghi's side.

Even before the current campaign has finished fans are also thinking about what is to come when next season begins in August.

That's because the club have already released next season's home kit and it's got fans thinking about what the kit might look like alongside any European success.

However it's been pointed out by rivals fans that the kit won't look like that no matter what happens in Turkey, unfortunately for City.

That's because the UEFA Badge of Honour, which is what the City fans are hoping to pick up, isn't given out just for winning the European title once.

It was introduced at the beginning of the 2000/01 season and clubs have to win a European title either five times or three in-a-row.

That means that only Sevilla, thanks to their Europa League success, Barcelona, Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Real Madrid have earned the right to wear it so far.

City fans won't be concerned whether or not their kits can have a badge next season if they win the Treble though, by finally winning the one trophy that has eluded them.

However they will have to overcome a run that has lasted the past 10 years in the Champions League final, in order to beat their Italian opponents.

Since 2013 a Croatian has been involved in every winning side and Inter have Marcelo Brozovic in their side whilst City have no one in their squad.
