Man City fans have hijacked the club’s Player of the Season voting to try and give it to Kalvin Phillips

Man City fans have hijacked the club’s Player of the Season voting to try and give it to Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips has struggled for game time since joining Manchester City last summer

Manchester City fans are trying to vote Kalvin Phillips as the club’s Player of the Season.

Phillips joined City from Leeds United last summer in a deal worth a reported £45 million.

However, the England international has found it tough to win the trust of manager Pep Guardiola.

Injury problems have also played a part in Phillips’ inability to regain the form he showed during his time as a Leeds player.

To date, the 27-year-old has only made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Blues.

As the 22/23 campaign edges ever closer to its conclusion, City have taken to social media to allow fans to vote for their Player of the Season.

Fans have been calling on each other to try and give Phillips the award ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

One fan said: “Everyone is voting Kalvin Philips for Man City’s POTS.”

Another tweeted: “Can we all raid this and vote for Phillips?”

A third fan added: “Me and my boys just voted Philips, what a player!”

Someone else wrote: “Lol but even if he wins they're gonna give Haaland anyway... they won't let that happen.”

Recently, Guardiola spoke about Phillips’ future, he said: “Players have to earn my confidence - all of them, not just Kalvin.

“I'm not complaining about Kalvin because when you don't play much it's difficult to take the rhythm. John [Stones] we're seven years together, Rodri is [four] years together. I don't have to tell them anything. Just little details - a movement here or there.”

Guardiola added: “Kalvin if maybe in the past he'd played more minutes he will get that but Rodri was in exceptional form.”

City are looking to continue their charge to the Premier League title on Sunday as they take on relegation-threatened Everton.
