Fans have spotted a major error in Man City's post about Sergio Aguero

Fans have spotted a major error in Man City's post about Sergio Aguero

The former Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona striker is now retired from football

Manchester City have had plenty of cause for celebration in recent days – and may well celebrate two more trophies and a stunning Treble before the season is out.

But eagle-eyed fans have spotted a mistake in a recent post by the official City account celebrating the career of Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine striker, now 34, left City at the end of the 2020/21 season, joining Barcelona on a free transfer after his contract expired. Sadly, though, Aguero had to retire soon after due to health reasons, after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia.

He will go down as a Premier League legend, however, having plundered 260 goals in 390 appearances for City over 10 seasons, with 184 of those strikes coming in the league – putting Aguero fifth in the all-time list.

On Tuesday (May 23), the official City account posted to say it was "2 years ago today [that Aguero] played his final game for City!" showing footage of the smiling striker bidding farewell to the Etihad Stadium crowd on May 23, 2021 after scoring two goals in a 5-0 demolition of Everton – putting the gloss on another title triumph.

But in actual fact, that was Aguero's final league appearance for City, not the last in all. His final ever game in a sky blue shirt was the 2021 Champions League final on May 29 that year, when Pep Guardiola's side were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea.

Aguero came on as a 77th minute substitute but was unable to help City turn the game around as Kai Havertz's counter-attacking goal proved decisive in Porto.

One fan replied to the post by saying: "I guess the 29th May 2021 doesn’t exist then."

"Am I missing something?" asked another.

A third – a Chelsea fan account – said: "Not so sure about this one lads..."

Another simply added a screengrab of a shellshocked Aguero after the Champions League final with the word: "Sure?" and a fifth said" It was the 29th May 2021 and we all know what happened".
