Man City fans slammed for “staggering” lack of support after booing players vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City produced a stunning comeback against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night

Manchester City fans have been slammed for showing a staggering lack of support after they booed Pep Guardiola’s men off the pitch at half-time against Tottenham Hotspur.

In what was a cagey affair at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night, two errors from City proved costly as the clock ticked towards the 45th minute.

Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson Royal were on hand to punish the City mistakes as Spurs took a shock 2-0 lead.

As the half-time whistle sounded, the shellshocked City players walked off the pitch to a chorus of boos from the disgruntled home crowd.

City then produced a brilliant response in the second half as goals from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland and a brace from Riyad Mahrez completed a stunning 4-2 win.

They may have been disappointed at half-time but City fans left the match at full-time with smiles across their faces.

However, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has slammed the City crowd for booing their players, branding it as staggering.

He wrote on Twitter: “And to think the City fans booed their team off at half-time. Winners of 4 of the last 5 Premier League titles. Sitting 2nd in the league and through to The Champions League knockout stages.

“Arguably the best club team in the world right now. Staggering.”

Despite their comeback win, manager Guardiola launched an astonishing attack on both the City players and fans during a scathing post-match interview.

He said: “We play because 'my manager told me to play this and how to do this', but there's nothing from the stomach or the gut.

“Today, we were lucky but it wouldn't change, sooner or later we are again [going] to drop points. [We are missing] passion, fire and desire to win from minute one.

“It's the same with our fans, they are silent for 45 minutes. They booed because we were losing, not because we played badly.”

Guardiola added: “I want my fans back, I want my fans here. Not my away fans, they are the best, but my fans here [at the Etihad]. The support for every corner and every action and support it. We have to do it, but everyone is relaxed.”

City will next take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday.
