Man United's planned Carabao Cup trophy lift has been revealed

Man United's planned Carabao Cup trophy lift has been revealed

Details of Manchester United's trophy lift if they win the Carabao Cup have been revealed.

Manchester United's plan for a trophy lift if they win the Carabao Cup has been revealed.

Erik ten Hag's side take on Newcastle United in a huge clash at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, with the Red Devils hoping to win their first bit of silverware since 2017.

Wayne Rooney lifted both the League Cup and Europa League in his final season with United under Jose Mourinho.

Since then there have been a slew of semi-final losses and final defeats to Chelsea and Villarreal in the FA Cup and Europa League respectively.

United have a huge chance to end the five-year drought but there is plenty of curiosity as to who will lift the trophy if United emerge victorious.

Harry Maguire remains United's club captain but he has been out of favour for the vast majority of the season, managing just 904 minutes across 19 appearances.

As a result, Bruno Fernandes has worn the armband more regularly and performed exceptionally for United.

According to The Mirror, both Maguire and Fernandes will lift the trophy at Wembley to recognise the Portuguese star playing a more prominent role.

Fernandes is set to captain United for their first final since 2021, with Maguire expected to be amongst the substitutes once again.

In the Carabao Cup this term, Maguire has made just two starts, while Fernandes has started all five wins.

Maguire has regularly assumed the armband when substituted, even in extremely late cameos. He still has an important role within the squad and has urged his teammates to end a wretched run.

“Winning trophies is what this club’s about,” he told the official Man United website.

“It demands winning trophies. It’s been far too long since our last one, so we’ve got a good opportunity to win a trophy, and we have to do it for ourselves, for the club and obviously for our fans, because they’ve waited far too long as well.

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position, but there’s no point in going to a final if you’re going to lose it.

“We need to be ready and focused, and we will be.”
