Man United delete tweet after Cristiano Ronaldo calls out Glazers and brands employers 'marketing club'

Man United delete tweet after Cristiano Ronaldo calls out Glazers and brands employers 'marketing club'

Manchester United took a tweet down after Cristiano Ronaldo said they are "a marketing club".

Manchester United deleted a tweet about a Black Friday sale sent 20 minutes after Cristiano Ronaldo branded his employers a "marketing club".

Ronaldo has caused an almighty stir after giving an extended interview to Piers Morgan where he claimed he has been "betrayed" by United.

The 90-minute interview, which Ronaldo requested himself, is to air on Wednesday and Thursday on TalkTV.

But a lot of the content has already been widely circulated online and the latest excerpt, shared by Morgan on Monday, saw him lay into the much-maligned Glazer family, who acquired United in 2003.

Having called out the lack of improvement in facilities and standards at United since he rejoined, Ronaldo accused the Glazers of not caring about the sporting side and merely being motivated by money.

"The owners of the club, listen, they don't care about the club," Ronaldo said.

"As you know, Manchester [United] is a marketing club. They will get money from the marketing. The sport, they don't really care in my opinion."

Ronaldo also revealed he has not spoken to the Glazers since returning in 2021 and said the club's fans were entitled to protest over the ownership.

The latest section of the interview was on Twitter timelines at around 10pm and then at 10:21pm, United's official Twitter account advertised a Black Friday sale on the online shop to its 33.9 million followers.

However, the tweet was not up for long and ended up being deleted and the timing of it garnered a whole lot of reaction:

Of all the things that Ronaldo said to Morgan, the above line on the Glazers would appear be the one they very much agree with.

However, he said much more than that - having stated he does not "have respect" for manager Erik ten Hag amid their strained relationship.

He also hit back at former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville for criticising him and revealed the pair are "not his friends".

In addition, Ronaldo added that he had "never heard" of Ralf Rangnick prior to him coming in as interim boss.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner accused his employers of showing a "lack of empathy" about his daughter being ill - which prevented him from returning for pre-season in July.

In an official statement, United have said they will "consider its response" after the "full facts" have been established.

Ronaldo, who refused to come on as a substitute against Spurs, could be facing a hefty fine for the interview and the latest is that the Red Devils are looking at ways in which they can sack him as a result of his conduct.
