"Do a deal" - Man United legend tells Erik ten Hag to sell £50m outcast

Man United legend Teddy Sheringham has advised Erik ten Hag to sell defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the upcoming transfer window.

The right-back has endured a difficult season at Old Trafford, with a back injury ruling him out of the majority of the campaign.

When he has been fit, however, the ex-Crystal Palace defender has found himself behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order.

His game time this term has been limited to an eight-minute cameo during the 2-1 victory over Liverpool in August, before he found himself on the bench for the 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad on the opening day of the Europa League campaign in September.

And Wan-Bissaka is in the travelling squad to take on the Spanish side in Sociedad this evening, for what would be his first United squad appearance in two months.

However, comments made by Erik ten Hag after United's 1-0 win over West Ham on Saturday cast doubt over the 24-year-old's long-term future at the club.

In addition, the Dutchman has reportedly targeted the right-back position as a transfer priority in the upcoming summer window, meaning Wan-Bissaka might be on his way out.

And Sheringham believes the Red Devils should look to move the defender, for whom United paid £50 million to sign from Crystal Palace in 2019, on to another club.

Teddy Sheringham on Wan-Bissaka

Speaking to OLBG (via Metro), the 1999 Champions League winner said: "If Manchester United can get money for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, they should do a deal.

"He's fallen out of favour, and has had a tough time coming into Manchester United in a tough period.

"It didn't look like they worked on improving the back four and defensive unit since he's been there."

Wan-Bissaka arrived at Old Trafford with a reputation as a rising defensive talent in the Premier League, and certainly enhanced that reputation during his early days at the club.

As per Tribuna, the full-back made 98 tackles in the Premier League in 2020 - more than any other player.

But the former Palace man is not as accomplished when going forward - something that his full-back rival, Dalot, has as one of his biggest strengths.

The Portugal star, therefore, seems to be a far better for Ten Hag's aggressive, forward-thinking system compared to Wan-Bissaka, meaning the latter may see himself being moved on by the club.
