Lewis Hamilton ‘makes decision’ regarding involvement in Jim Ratcliffe’s Man United bid

Lewis Hamilton ‘makes decision’ regarding involvement in Jim Ratcliffe’s Man United bid

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has expressed an interest in buying Manchester United

Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton has reportedly made a decision on whether to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid to buy Manchester United.

The Old Trafford club’s owners, the Glazer family announced in November that they were ‘commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives’ for the club with a full sale expected to be the most likely outcome.

On Tuesday, Ratcliffe confirmed his interest in buying the club from the Glazers after releasing a statement through his company, Ineos.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We have formally put ourselves into the process.”

37-year-old Hamilton has previously described Ratcliffe as part boss and part partner after the pair grew close due to Mercedes’ relationship with Ineos.

Having stated his intent to invest in sports teams, speculation grew that Hamilton could be involved in Ratcliffe’s bid to buy the Red Devils.

However, according to the Press Association, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion will not be a part of Ratcliffe’s bid as he is taking no active interest in any takeover bids for United.

Hamilton has previously said that his main objective is to be a visible presence for black ownership.

He was asked about a potential takeover bid for United back in September of 2022 during the Dutch Gran Prix.

Hamilton said: “Jim is part-boss and part partner. I’d say we’re more partners because we’re in this together

“I hope in the future to do something with Jim and build with him. I don’t know when that will be or what that will be.

“But I do want to get more and more involved in teams because I really do believe in black ownership and black equity because there is a real lack of that in sport.”

Will Ratcliffe manage to get his hands on United in the near future? Only time will tell.
