Man United star Tyrell Malacia took the worst corner ever, Erik ten Hag's reaction was priceless

Man United star Tyrell Malacia took the worst corner ever, Erik ten Hag's reaction was priceless

Tyrell Malacia might not be on corner duties ever again after a shocking set-piece for Manchester United against Charlton.

Manchester United star Tyrell Malacia took what may well be the worst corner in football history during the 3-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Charlton Athletic.

United secured progression to the semi-finals courtesy of a worldie strike from Antony and a brace from in-form Marcus Rashford, who came off the bench.

But while it was a positive night for United at Old Trafford, left-back Malacia received a lot of criticism for his horrific corner-taking abilities.

The summer signing from Feyenoord made a second consecutive start for United and helped the Red Devils to a clean sheet going into Saturday's derby with Manchester City..

Yet his corners were unbelievably below par in the victory. Malacia took them from either side mere minutes apart but neither his inswingers or outswingers looked impressive in the slightest.

In fact, the outswinger was genuinely the worst ever seen as the Dutch defender ballooned the ball out of play and behind the goal for a Charlton goal-kick.

He tried to curl the ball in but got it horribly wrong and it was never in play. Fan footage showed just how poor it was, with fans heard laughing in the background.

And immediately after the shocker, manager Erik ten Hag was seen scribbling on his notepad on the touchline. Something tells us he was jotting down a reminder to never let Malacia take corners again.

Fans reacted in numbers to Malacia's dismal display from corner kicks.

One wrote: “I hope the note Ten Hag took there was ‘Malacia is never getting close to a corner again’."

Another said: "Not sure Malacia will want to see what Ten Hag wrote on his little pad after those two corners."

A third added: "I need Malacia to stop taking corners."

A fourth concluded: "Malacia just had the worst 2 corners I’ve ever seen."

A fifth opined: "I don't want Malacia to take another corner ever again whilst he's under contract at United. EVER."

A sixth commented: "Highlight from that game is watching Malacia take the worst two corners I’ve ever seen within a matter of minutes."

It's no surprise that Fred ended up taking the corners for United in the second half. United should probably get Phil Jones back in the mix for corners and throw it back to 2015 when Louis van Gaal had him as his first-choice taker against QPR.
