David de Gea immediately silenced a journalist after cheeky question about Alejandro Garnacho

David de Gea immediately silenced a journalist after cheeky question about Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea had the perfect response to a journalist asking about a possible transfer away for teammate Alejandro Garnacho.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut in October after signing a professional contract last July.

His current deal runs until 2024, with United keen to tie him down following a sensational start to the campaign.

Garnacho's form has naturally seen him attract suitors from overseas. Real Madrid are interested in the winger, who started his youth career on the books of bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.

He played for Spain's U18 team but has opted to represent Argentina at senior level through his mother.

United are confident in agreeing on terms with Garnacho, who is already a fan favourite at Old Trafford. It seems he's got the backing of senior players at the club too.

In preparation for a return to Premier League action later this month, United manager Erik ten Hag took his players out to Andalusia for warm-weather training and friendlies against La Liga sides Cadiz and Real Betis.

Garnacho featured in both games, which United lost. Spanish press were keen to get the scoop on a potential transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu. Step up, David de Gea.

The veteran shot-stopper intervened to protect the youngster and replied: "We won't let him leave."

De Gea knows a thing or two about being linked to 'Los Blancos'. In 2015, he was incredibly close to joining the 14-time European champions. A dodgy fax machine managed to scupper that.

Garnacho is highly-rated by ten Hag, who is keen for the teenager to keep his feet on the ground.

Speaking after a 2-1 victory over Fulham, a game Garnacho scored the injury-time winner in, ten Hag told reporters: "It was good that he came on and showed that performance and had that impact in the game, to be able to assist, make the dribbles and run behind.

"He still has things to learn, but quite obviously we are happy with his development and he can contribute to the team.

"It depends on his approach, his attitude. When he keeps working, then yes, it is possible [for him to play more]. He wants to improve every day. He has to do the right things in his lifestyle. He has the capability."

United's next Premier League game is against Nottingham Forest on December 27. Before that, they take on Championship outfit Burnley in the Carabao Cup on December 21.
