Man Utd 'make improved bid' for Inter's Andre Onana amid David de Gea uncertainty

It's big news.

Manchester United have made an improved bid for Inter's Andre Onana, according to Fabrizio Romano.

United are on the hunt for a new keeper after contract talks between the club and David de Gea, their No.1 since 2011, failed to produce a resolution.

While the 32-year-old, whose contract expired last Friday, remains in negotiations with the club, United are exploring alternatives with Inter's Onana thought to be among Erik ten Hag's priority targets.

United had an opening bid of £38.5million (€45million) rejected for the shot-stopper earlier this week, but it has been widely reported that there is a desire from all parties to reach a resolution before the player reports for Inter's pre-season on July 13.

And it appears that United have had a second bite at the cherry.

United make second Onana bid

According to Romano, United have submitted an improved bid for Onana worth up to £42million.

In a tweet, the transfer guru claimed: "Manchester United have improved their bid for André Onana. It’s now worth €50m add-ons included, around €45m plus €5m add-ons.

"Inter always asked for €60m package — but sources believe €55m could be the right number to make it happen.

"Talks continue."

Inter's total valuation for Onana is £51million (€60million) and their public stance is he will remain at the club unless that figure is met.

However, Sky Sports News claimed on Thursday there is optimism a bid of £40million up front plus £5million in add-ons could be accepted.

Onana has reportedly made clear his intention to move to United and reunite with his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.

The 27-year-old's eagerness to join the club, alongside his understanding of Ten Hag's demands in the position, makes him United's primary goalkeeping target.

However United have also been linked with the likes of Justin Bijlow, David Raya and Diogo Costa.
