Erik ten Hag's start to life as Manchester United manager has not gone according to plan but it's not events on the pitch that has left him 'furious,' but the club's failure to keep a promise.

Ten Hag has overseen two losses in his opening two games as United boss, with Sunday's absolutely embarrassment at the hands of Brentford coming after last weekend's loss to Brighton.

It's all added to a horrible start to life in England for the Dutchman, who is now one of the favourites to leave his job next, with Paddy Power already paying out on it.

The manager, along with fans, will be hoping that he can bring in some more players before the transfer window shuts on September 1st but he's reportedly already angry about the paucity of signings.

According to the Mirror, United promised Ten Hag five signings when he decided to join the club but they have only added three players to the squad, leaving the boss' advisors 'furious.'

So far this summer, only Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen have joined the squad, with Eriksen signing on a free after his contract with Brentford expired.

The club have been in pursuit of Frenkie de Jong all summer, without any success so far, and the Barcelona midfielder continues to be their main priority.

Barca are desperate to see the former Ajax player leave but so far he's refusing to go, despite reportedly feeling like he's been made the centre of a 'slander' campaign by the Spanish giants.

Ten Hag is also known to want to add a forward to his squad, something he desired even before he knew that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to leave.

Last week United were farcically linked with former West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic last week, before pulling out of any deal with Bologna.

And the next option to fill the role has also reportedly annoyed the manager, Stuttgart’s Austrian striker Sasa Kalajdzic is the latest name linked with Old Trafford.

However, despite scoring 24 goals in 55 Bundesliga appearances, Kalajdzic was quite far down on the list that Ten Hag gave the club.

That has also left the 52-year-old's advisors angry, and seeing former charge Antony, who he reportedly wanted, continue his excellent form at Ajax will not help matters.

Perhaps if he is so annoyed at life at Old Trafford already he'll walk away, something that he's already been advised to do by one pundit.

Things aren't likely to get any better in the near future for Ten Hag or his players, as they next come up against fierce rivals Liverpool.

Maybe Ten Hag should consider quitting in the next eight days, at least that way he'll avoid further embarrassment.
