Man Utd star backed to remain at Old Trafford despite exit reports

Man Utd star backed to remain at Old Trafford despite exit reports

He's been backed to stay with the Red Devils.

Harry Maguire has been backed to remain at Manchester United by former Red Devils defender Wes Brown.

United captain Maguire has endured a difficult season after being dropped by manager Erik ten Hag.

The 29-year-old lost his starting place to new signing Lisandro Martinez early in the campaign.

And despite impressing for England at the World Cup in Qatar this winter, Maguire has been unable to regain his starting place at United.

To make matters worse for Maguire, Ten Hag has at times opted to play left-back Luke Shaw at centre-back over his England international teammate.

Maguire has been linked with a move away this month but is expected to be kept by Ten Hag, with United still competing in four competitions.

However, he could push for a move away in the summer transfer window if his first-team opportunities are restricted in the second half of the campaign.

Brown: Ten Hag will want to keep Maguire

Former United defender Brown, who made 362 appearances for the club, has given his backing Maguire and believes there is still a future for him at Old Trafford.

"I'm sure Erik ten Hag would love to keep Harry Maguire at Man United. Harry Maguire will want to play football," Brown told Casinos En Ligne.

"Football is a crazy game and you can be back in the starting XI straight away or sometimes you have to wait a while. It's a similar situation to that of Aaron Wan-Bissaka - he was out in the cold with the manager.

"I would love Harry Maguire to stay at Man United. He's still a very good player who got a lot of stick when the whole team was playing badly."

A new report claims United could be willing to 'cash in' on Maguire in the summer window.

According to talkSPORT's Alex Crook, via his Transfer Notebook, United are willing to allow Maguire and Scott McTominay to exit Old Trafford in the summer window.

It is claimed that United need to sell players before they can purchase them, in order to ensure compliance with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

However, Ten Hag is reluctant to allow the two players to leave this month and sees them both as valuable squad players for the second half of the campaign.
