Man Utd have a mystery absentee as Ten Hag names team to face West Ham

Man Utd have a mystery absentee as Ten Hag names team to face West Ham

It's a surprising absentee for Erik ten Hag's men.

Jadon Sancho is mysteriously missing from the Manchester United squad for the club's game against West Ham.

United ended their longest trophy drought in 40 years on Sunday, by beating Newcastle at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup.

It was their first silverware of any kind since Jose Mourinho led the Old Trafford club to Europa League glory back in 2017.

While they have one trophy already under their belt this term, Erik ten Hag's men are fighting on three further fronts. United are in the latter stages of both the FA Cup and the Europa League while they have an outside chance of winning the Premier League.

Indeed, this evening the club turn their attention to the FA Cup by welcoming West Ham to Old Trafford, with a place in the quarter-final up for grabs.

However, should Ten Hag's side claim a win, they would be doing so without two key men.

Sancho and Shaw missing from Man Utd squad

Sancho is absent from the United squad for this evening's game against West Ham.

At present, it is uncertain why he will not take part in the encounter.

Sancho has already missed a large chunk of the campaign while he attended to his physical and mental well-being.

The 22-year-old was welcomed back into the fold at Carrington earlier in February, and featured as a late substitute at Wembley, helping United get over the line against the Magpies.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has been a key player under Ten Hag, though picked up an injury in the cup final that has ruled him out of this evening's game. Fred has made the squad however, despite having initially been a doubt.

In his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag insisted the squad will have to all play a part if United are to compete in three competitions until the end of the season.

"Anthony Martial is not available, Luke Shaw and Fred are questions for tomorrow," the Dutchman explained.

"Let me make myself clear, we didn't win it with 11 players.

"We won with a squad and I think the squad the whole season is so important every time players come in, if it's for a whole game, minutes, a couple of games."
