'Keen to make next step' - Journalist gives update on Man Utd's pursuit of 'incredible' Bundesliga star

It would be a huge coup for United.

Manchester United are still pursuing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to a reputable journalist.

In his short tenure so far, Erik ten Hag has restored pride at Old Trafford. Indeed, on Sunday United ended their longest trophy drought in 40 years by beating Newcastle 2-0 to claim the Carabao Cup.

And there could be more silverware on the horizon, with United still battling in three further competitions. Ten Hag’s men are still in the FA Cup and Europa League, while they have an outside chance of winning the Premier League.

Much of United’s success this term has been down to the influence of the club’s summer signings. While Antony has so far blown hot and cold, his compatriot Casemiro has been the catalyst for much of the club’s recent success.

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has proved his doubters wrong but putting in several battling performances at the heart of United’s defence.

And if reports are to be believed Ten Hag is looking to dip into the market in the summer, hoping to add to the Old Trafford club’s defence ranks.

Frimpong to United?

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter, Florian Plettenberg, United are still targeting Frimpong, though have not yet entered “concrete talks” with Leverkusen.

United had been linked with the full-back throughout the January window, though no move materialised at the time.

However, Plettenberg tweeted: "[Frimpong’s] still on the list of Manchester United as revealed.

“But contrary to other reports there are no concrete talks between Man United & his management at his stage. No negotiations with Leverkusen.

“Contract until 2025 but still keen to make the next step.”

Frimpong, who was once described by Leverkusen’s managing director Simon Rolfe as “incredible”, has reportedly been the subject of interest from United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future still uncertain.

Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot, who has been the first choice right back for much of the campaign, enters the final 12 months of his contract in the summer.
