Journalist drops key injury update on Marcus Rashford ahead of Newcastle clash

Marcus Rashford has travelled with the Manchester United squad for the League Cup final against Newcastle, according to reports.

The England international has been a doubt ever since he limped off the field in the 88th minute of the Red Devils' 2-1 victory over Barcelona on Thursday.

Rashford has been imperative to Erik ten Hag this term, scoring 24 goals for the club - his highest ever scoring season.

The 25-year-old's absence would come as a massive blow to United, as they eye their first piece of silverware since 2017.

However, journalist Samuel Luckhurst has a positive update for supporters, confirming he has travelled with the squad to London.

Rashford named in Man Utd squad

United's medical staff assessed Rashford on Friday, and his inclusion suggests he could play a part in the final.

When asked about Rashford's potential availability on Friday, Ten Hag said: "I don't know. Players are now coming in.

"We have to do investigations, medical, of course, yesterday we did. So straight after a game most of the time you can't say, you have to wait for a 100 per cent diagnosis. So let's do the medical, the work, we have to wait."

Should Rashford start the match, Ten Hag will have some key decisions to make regarding the rest of his team.

Wout Weghorst has started United's last 11 matches, but has only found the net once.

The Dutchman was replaced by Antony at half-time against Barcelona, with the substitute going on to score the winning goal.

Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are both sidelined with long-term injuries. Whilst Anthony Martial has been ruled out with a hip problem, limiting Ten Hag's options in attack.
