Former Man Utd star completes surprise transfer move after not playing all season

Former Man Utd star completes surprise transfer move after not playing all season

A huge change in his career.

Former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has joined Australian side Western Sydney Wanderers on loan from Nice until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old joined Nice in 2020, with the aim of bringing some experience to the side. However, he has failed to make a single appearance this season.

Schneiderlin was signed by Louis van Gaal in 2015 for a fee of £25 million after six seasons with Southampton. The Frenchman played a key role in taking the Saints from League One to the Premier League.

He went on to make 47 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring one goal, before packing his bags for Everton. He also has 15 France caps to his name.

However, a disappointing end to his spell in Ligue 1 had seen him become surplus to requirements - and he has now departed on a temporary basis.

Schneiderlin joins Western City Wanderers

The Wanderers currently sit third in the A-League, seven points adrift of first-placed Melbourne City.

The midfielder stressed the speed of his move, but also expressed his happiness in joining the Australian side.

“It happened very quick. In a week it was done. I learned interest from them a week ago – 10 days ago,” Schneiderlin told Paramount+.

“It was a bit of reflection for me because it’s an important move. But I was very confidence by the speech of the coach.

“I landed yesterday morning and I’m very happy to be here.”

The Wanderers host reigning champions Western United on Sunday, February 5th, and the Frenchman might be involved in the action.

Schneiderlin added that despite his lack of playing time, he was match-ready, stating: “I want to play as soon as possible. Obviously the last two months I haven’t played a lot.

“I feel ready. I kept myself in shape and I will train all week, and after it’s the manager’s decision. But I’m ready to play next week.”
