"An official announcement could follow..." - Man Utd star set to sign new five-year deal at Old Trafford

"An official announcement could follow..." - Man Utd star set to sign new five-year deal at Old Trafford

Alejandro Garnacho has reached a new agreement with United.

Alejandro Garnacho has reached an agreement in principle to sign a new five-year contract at Manchester United, pending a few final details, according to a fresh report.

The Old Trafford club have entered a pivotal week on and off the pitch.

Indeed, on Thursday the Red Devils take on Barcelona in the second leg of a heavyweight Europa League play-off tie, with the scores currently locked at 2-2.

Three days later is an arguably even more significant match, as United come up against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. A win would see the Premier League giants claim their first silverware of any kind since 2017.

However, it is also a key moment away from the pitch, as Friday saw bids go in for the takeover of the club. At present Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the chairman of one of Qatar banks QIB, and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are thought to be frontrunners in the race to purchase United.

United fans will be encouraged however that a seismic seven days have got off to a positive start, with reports having emerged of Garnacho committing his future to the club.

Garnacho to sign new Man Utd deal

The 18-year-old is out of contract in 2024, but ESPN claim an agreement has been reached for him to extend his stay at Old Trafford until 2028.

The new contract is reportedly subject to final details related to image rights, before the terms can be made official.

An ESPN source claimed that both parties are keen for everything to be finalised and "an official announcement could follow in the coming weeks."

The new deal will reportedly see the Argentina youth international's salary adjusted to his growing status in Erik ten Hag's side.

The teenager only made his debut for the club in April but has since played 26 further times for the first-team, scoring three goals.

Negotiations over new terms are said to have started a few months ago. A source has now told ESPN that the club and the player have struck an agreement over the financial elements of the deal and the length of the 18-year-old's contract.

Indeed, the publication claims that Garnacho's salary will increase incrementally as his role in the team grows.
