PSG's Qatari owners make key decision over potential Man Utd takeover as Dubai consider bid

PSG's Qatari owners make key decision over potential Man Utd takeover as Dubai consider bid

Paris Saint-Germain’s Qatari owners have made a key decision over a potential takeover bid for Manchester United.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Qatari owners have made a key decision over a potential takeover bid for Manchester United.

On Tuesday the Glazers stunned the football world by announcing they were considering selling Man Utd as they explore “strategic alternatives”

American investment firm Raine Group, who handled Chelsea's sale in May, is exclusively advising the Old Trafford club as the Glazers explore their options.

Man Utd fans have widely celebrated the news, having called for a Glazers exit from the moment the Americans arrived in 2005. Indeed, the owners leveraged a buyout that still sees the club saddled with a £514.9million debt.

There has been much speculation regarding who might buy Man Utd. British billionaire, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s name has been touted in particular.

PSG owners not interested

According to the Telegraph, Qatar Sports Investments, who own PSG have categorically squashed any suggestion that they may be interested in buying Man Utd.

The owners have stressed that their long-term focus remains on Ligue 1 giants PSG.

However, another Gulf state has reportedly expressed an interest. According to Arabian Business, Dubai is likely to be among those interested in buying Man Utd.

The report claims that Dubai Investors could make an £8.8billion bid for the club - a figure that would surpass the biggest price paid for a sports team.

Glazers will sell to the best owner

The Glazers have privately told fan groups that they will sell to the best new owners for the club, rather than accept the highest price, according to the Guardian.

While the news will be greeted with deep scepticism, it could ease supporters who fear that club could be sold to an oil-rich state with a dubious human rights record.

The news comes amid speculation that the Glazers will place a starting price of £5billion.
