Erik ten Hag knocks back inquiry for Manchester United star

Manchester United have knocked back an inquiry from Southampton for midfielder Scott McTominay, according to a report.

Manchester United have knocked back an inquiry from Southampton for midfielder Scott McTominay, according to a report.

The Reds have been in resurgent form under Erik ten Hag, having put together eight consecutive victories and suffered just one defeat in their last 18 games.

Indeed the Old Trafford club have lost just once in the Premier League since a 6-3 Manchester Derby humiliation back in October, while they have conceded just six goals in the last 10 matches.

Such form has been influenced by the summer signings of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, both of whom have been regulars in Erik ten Hag’s midfield.

However, their arrival has seen the likes of Fred and McTominay veer more towards the peripheries.

McTominay inquiry knocked back

According to TalkSPORT United have knocked back an inquiry for McTominay from Southampton.

The 26-year-old has made 132 appearances in the Premier League since his debut in 2016.

However, McTominay has not started a game for the Old Trafford club since October, though he has still featured 21 times in all competitions this term.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag reportedly wants to keep the bulk of his squad together, with United competing on four fronts.

Newcastle United and West Ham United have also been linked to the Scotland international this window.

Indeed, 90min claimed that West Ham had also inquired, though their advances were rejected. United reportedly made it clear that the combative midfielder would not be sold, either on loan or permanently this month.

Mctominay’s place in ten Hag’s side appears precarious in the long term however, with the club linked with both England’s Jude Bellingham and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. United will reportedly target both midfielders in the summer window.
