Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo cautioned over smashing child's phone

Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo cautioned over smashing child's phone

Ronaldo was involved in the incident after United's loss to Everton in the Premier League back in April.

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has been cautioned by police following an incident with an Everton fan's phone earlier this year.

United lost to Frank Lampard's team back in April, in a game that went a long way to securing the hosts survival in the Premier League.

Ronaldo was very unhappy at full time and video from a fan showed him appearing to smack the phone of another Everton fan's phone out of his hand.

Police confirmed at the time that they were looking into the incident, which involved a 14-year-old boy, and the United forward has now been cautioned.

"We can confirm that a 37-year-old man voluntarily attended and was interviewed under caution in relation to an allegation of assault and criminal damage," a police statement said, via the Mirror.

"The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton v Manchester United football match at Goodison Park on Saturday 9 April.

"The matter has been dealt with by way of conditional caution. The matter has now concluded."

At the time, the 37-year-old did put out a public apology to the boy and offered him the chance to come to a game at Old Trafford in the future.

According to Wednesday's report, Ronaldo has also agreed to pay compensation to the schoolboy, who's mum showed off images of the damaged caused by the slap on social media.

Sarah Kelly, mother of 14-year-old Jake, was understandably not happy with what occurred, at the time, saying, "He’s an idol. Yes, he’s not from Everton, but Ronaldo’s a big player.

"My son’s always been like ‘Ronaldo’s going to be there’ - he’s an icon. I’d understand if Jake was waving it in his face, but he wasn’t. He’s an autistic boy and he’s been assaulted by a football player, that’s how I see it as a mum."

She also said that Jake would not be taking the player up on his offer to see United, adding, ""I did ask him: 'Would you like to go? Ronaldo said we could go to United'. He said, 'No, mum, I would never want to see him again'.

"That's upsetting because Ronaldo was one of the reasons he wanted to go to the United game."
