Erik ten Hag targeting sensational £60m+ January double transfer - Man United fans will be pleased

Man Utd are reportedly targeting a double transfer in January - and could get both players for a combined £65 million, it has been claimed.

Manchester United are planning to bring Dutch duo Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong to Old Trafford in January, according to reports.

Both players are currently at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Netherlands, who have progressed to the last 16 of the tournament as Group A winners.

Frimpong, who plays his club football for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, has not yet featured at the World Cup.

But PSV star Gakpo has - and in some style. He has netted goals in each of the three group stage games, and is currently the joint top scorer alongside Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Rashford and Enner Valencia.

His latest strike came in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Qatar, with the 23-year-old picking the ball up 25 yards out before driving beyond several defenders and powering a right-footed effort into the bottom right corner.

PSV chief executive Marcel Brands has revealed to ESPN (via Tribal Football) that there was interest in Gakpo in the summer. United made a bid, but it was not enough to meet the selling club's valuation. The 23-year-old recently revealed to The Times that he held talks with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag in the summer over a move.

However, reports suggest United will go back in for the player in January - along with right-back Frimpong.

Gakpo and Frimpong to Man Utd?

According to Fabrizio Romano in an interview with The United Stand, Gakpo would likely cost United £43 million if they were to renew their interest in the player.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express claim that Frimpong would be available for between £17-22 million, as part of a 'double transfer'. The former Manchester City and Celtic defender having hugely impressed in Germany.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg claimed that United sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old during his side's 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg last month, in which Frimpong scored.

He came through the City academy, but never played a game for the senior team before deciding to join Celtic.

On Tuesday, Romano also told The United Stand that the player is 'excited' to potentially move to United - something which will likely come as a big boost to Ten Hag and the Red Devils.
