Man Utd alleged to have made player-plus-cash offer for Juventus star

Man Utd alleged to have made player-plus-cash offer for Juventus star

Manchester United allegedly proposed a player-plus-cash offer to sign midfielder Weston McKennie from Juventus.

Manchester United allegedly proposed a player-plus-cash offer to sign midfielder Weston McKennie from Juventus in 2021, Italian outlets have reported.

The FIGC Court of Appeal gave Juve a 15-point deduction for Serie A on Friday after the club was found guilty of capital gain violations. They were accused of fixing their balance sheets by artificial gains from club transfers.

The decision came following an investigation into the club's finances that allegedly revealed the violations.

A number of club officials have been banned, including former club president Andrea Agnelli and ex-chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene (two years), former director Pavel Nedved (eight months), current sporting director Federico Cherubini (16 months) and current Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici (30 months).

It is unclear whether Paratici's ban extends to outside of Italy and, specifically, to his role at Spurs.

Juventus have denied any wrongdoing, and in a club statement, confirmed that they will be appealing the decision made by the FIGC to the Sport Guarantee Board, in accordance with the Sport Justice Code.

The points deduction verdict has led to speculation over the future of Juventus' top stars. The Old Lady were in 11th place following the verdict, 12 points off the Champions League spots, and will face a major uphill battle to qualify for Europe's top competition if the deduction is upheld upon appeal.

And United could potentially make a fresh attempt to sign one of the club's top midfielders.

Man Utd keen on McKennie

Tuttomercatoweb have reported that, as per defence documents from the capital gains case, United proposed a player-plus-cash offer to Juve for USA international McKennie in August 2021.

As per Football Italia, club directors were subjected to wiretaps for well over a year for the public prosecutor in the case to gather evidence.

According to the TMW report, then-president Agnelli requested a fee of €50 million to seal a deal for McKennie - but the Red Devils were not willing to spend such a high amount.

Instead, it is claimed they put forward the possibility of a €28 million fee, plus Donny van de Beek moving in the opposite direction, to complete the deal.

But McKennie stayed at Juventus, and has made 20 appearances in all competitions for Max Allegri's side this season.

Football Italia claimed earlier this week that Juve would be open to selling the 24-year-old, meaning Erik ten Hag's side may now decide to make another move in January or the summer.
