Manchester City Confirm £64 Million Erling Haaland Signing

Manchester City have confirmed that Erling Haaland will join them in the summer, after agreeing to pay the Borussia Dortmund forward's release clause.

Haaland has long been expected to leave Dortmund in the summer, with the £64 million coming into effect at the end of the current season.

The Norwegian had been heavily linked with Real Madrid, PSG and of course City, and the Premier League club have won the battle, not that one really emerged in the end.

Earlier in the week it was reported that the Bundesliga club had given their star man some time off to complete the move, and he is said to have had his medical on Monday.

It's believed that the 21-year-old striker has signed a five year deal, which will see him earn a base £350,000-per-week, plus significant bonuses.

City were desperate to add a striker to their squad last summer, although Pep Guardiola only had eyes for Harry Kane, in the wake of Sergio Aguero's departure.

They had won the league without the Argentine playing too often, with Guardiola usually playing with a false nine due to a lack of form and fitness for Aguero.

However they failed to sign the Tottenham Hotspur striker, instead paying a club record £100 million to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Failure to sign Kane led the English champions to turn their attention to Haaland, though the Norwegian had reportedly initially prefered a move Real.

The Spanish champions attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe may have ended their chances of signing the former Red Bull Salzburg striker, and they could still miss out on the Frenchman too.

Haaland's form since moving to Dortmund has shown that he had had no issues making the step up to the Bundesliga, since moving from Salzburg two and a half years ago.

The Leeds born striker has scored 85 times in 88 appearances for the German side, and his career record is 154 goals in 199 appearances in all competitions for all his teams.

He's scored 15 times in 13 games in Europe for Dortmund as well, which is where City may really need his goals, having continued to miss out on continental success, whilst his cool finishing could have ended the tie against Real in the first leg.

The player's dad Alf-Inge Haaland played for City for three years, from 2000-2003, before having to retire due to a knee injury.
