Manchester City Fans Trolled After Julian Alvarez’s Reception At Etihad Unveiling

Manchester City Fans Trolled After Julian Alvarez’s Reception At Etihad Unveiling

The talented Argentine striker joined from River Plate.

Manchester City fans gathered in numbers as they welcomed their summer signings to the club, but their reception for Julian Alvarez left them being mocked by rivals on social media.

The Etihad club unveiled their summer signings Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Stefan Ortega Moreno in front of fans who gathered outside the stadium. Kalvin Phillips missed the presentation due to illness.

Footage of City fans cheering Alvarez onto the stage has gone viral after rival fans mocked the slightly muted cheers and applause for the young Argentine.

Fans took to social media as they were not willing to pass up an opportunity to mock City fans.

One fan said: “Genuinely seen better atmosphere in a library.”

Another tweeted: “Bro went from river plate ultras smashing up the place to primary school assembly crowds.”

And a third fan added: “I’ve seen better atmosphere in an assembly hall.”

Alvarez arrives in Manchester as one of the best talents in world football after making a name for himself playing for River Plate.

The 22-year-old scored 18 goals in 26 appearances for the Argentine club this year, including a double hat trick in the Copa Libertadores clash against Alianza Lima in May

Alvarez spoke about his feeling after joining City to the club’s official website.

He said: “Manchester City has a lot of history with Argentinians before but I came here to create my own history, my own path.”

“In Argentina we are used to interest from Europe. It’s our dream to play there because they are the best leagues and clubs.”

Alvarez added: “City is one of the best clubs. so I was very excited (when I learned of the move). I worked very hard and I am very excited to be here now.”

Alvarez added: “I want to play and contribute. I want to win trophies, the Premier League and Champions League. I’m going to give my best to adapt as soon as possible and contribute and play as soon as possible.”

The loudest cheer of the day of course went to Erling Haaland, who joined City after scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. The Norway international will now have to deliver as high expectations have been place on the 21-year-old.

An exciting season ahead for City as they look to defend their Premier League crown and push for the elusive Champions League trophy. Will Pep Guardiola finally win Europe's premier club competition with City? Only time will tell.
