Man Utd suffer transfer blow with player set to return after heated training ground bust-up

Manchester United defender Alex Telles is set to return to the club, with Sevilla having reportedly decided not to sign the Brazilian permanently.

According to the Mirror, Sevilla, who are languishing in the 13th place in La Liga, do not intend to buy Telles on a permanent basis upon the expiry of the defender’s loan at the end of the campaign.

The 30-year-old was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Hannibal Mejbri last May, months before Erik ten Hag was appointed United manager.

The fall-out came after United suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat away at Brighton at the tail end of last season under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

And the Mirror claim that though Ten Hag was not United boss at the time of the incident, he was told that Rangnick was so upset by the incident that he ended that training session early.

This term, Ten Hag permitted both players to go out on loan, with Hannibal joining Birmingham City and Telles moving to Sevilla.

And despite having featured 26 times for the Spanish side across all competitions, the club have reportedly already decided not to extend Telles’ deal beyond the current campaign.

The Brazil international will likely feature for Sevilla against United this season, however, with the two clubs having been drawn to play one another in the quarter-final of the Europa League.

Man Utd need to sell in summer

Telles could be among the players sold in the summer by United, with the club reportedly at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

According to ESPN, a failure to qualify for the Champions League plus a lack of significant player departures has meant the club could breach FFP rules if they spend heavily this summer.

That is despite the Old Trafford club’s commercial, broadcast and matchday revenue streams remaining strong.
