Manchester United Attempt To 'Hijack' Lyon's Bid For Feyenoord's Tyrell Malacia, A Deal Could Be 'Imminent'

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia.

Malacia is expected to move on from Feyenoord this summer, with several clubs linked with the highly-rated left-back.

French side Lyon had reached a verbal agreement to sign the Netherlands international, who has already played 136 games for Feyenoord at the age of 22.

But that move is now in doubt after Manchester United entered the race to sign the defender.

"Manchester United are trying to hijack Tyrell Malacia deal! After full verbal agreement with OL, Man Utd jumped into it before it was signed. #MUFC," tweeted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

"Talks with Feyenoord to reach an agreement, Dutch sources confirm."

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen has since confirmed United's interest in Malacia and claims an "agreement" has been reached with the Premier League club.

"The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell," Arnesen told 1908.nl.

"If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent."

Malacia is a full Netherlands international, having made his senior debut against Montenegro in a World Cup qualifier in September.

The defender is said to have the same agent as another United transfer target, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with the former Ajax star and has made him his top transfer target this summer.

Talks are progressing between United and Barcelona over a potential deal, with a £68m fee reportedly close to being agreed.

In addition to Malacia, United have been linked with several other Eredivisie players, including Ajax trio Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Jurrien Timber.

It has been a slow start to Ten Hag's first transfer window at Old Trafford, with United yet to make a major signing.

However, the Red Devils are expected to be busy this summer having allowed the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic to leave the club for free.
