Man Utd handed Marcus Rashford boost ahead of Chelsea clash as early team news released

Man Utd have received a major boost.

Manchester United have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Chelsea, with Marcus Rashford nearing a return to action.

Rashford missed last Saturday's 1-0 win over Bournemouth through illness, with manager Erik ten Hag confirming the news on the eve of the fixture.

He had missed the previous weekend's 2-0 victory over Wolves with a leg injury, but had recovered from that in time to face the Cherries.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Ten Hag told reporters: "Rashy trained well the whole week but today he reported that he is ill.

"We have to see how he recovers during the day and see tomorrow."

Now, United could welcome their top goalscorer back into the fold.

Rashford has been pictured in training at Carrington ahead of Thursday's crunch Premier League fixture against Chelsea.

The 25-year-old has trained with the rest of the squad on the training pitches, indicating that he could return to United's starting XI if passed fit by the club's medical staff.

A point for United against Chelsea will secure Champions League football for next season with a game to spare, to add to the Carabao Cup that the side won earlier this campaign.

It will have been a successful first season in charge for Ten Hag if United do return to Europe's top table next season - and Rashford will have played a big part in getting them there.

The forward has scored 16 goals in 33 Premier League appearances, with most of those goals arriving after a World Cup in which the England star netted three goals in five games. No other player in the tournament scored more goals.

He can make it 30 goals for the season in all competitions by scoring in either of United's final two fixtures, with the forward currently on 29 strikes.
