Manchester United Fan Mark Goldbridge Goes Viral After Bold Harry Maguire/Paul Pogba Claim

Manchester United Fan Mark Goldbridge Goes Viral After Bold Harry Maguire/Paul Pogba Claim

"Are you not surprised by what I'm about to say here?"

A Manchester United fan has told captain Harry Maguire he should publicly back Paul Pogba after the Frenchman was booed off in Saturday's 3-2 win over Norwich City.

Pogba was jeered by United fans inside Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon after being substituted with the scores level at 2-2.

The 29-year-old was hit with chants of 'F**k off Pogba' amid rumours he could leave on a free at the end of this season.

Mark Goldbridge of the United Stand believes Maguire, who was booed by England supporters during last month's friendly against Ivory Coast, should be standing up for a teammate going through a similar situation.

"Are you not surprised by what I'm about to say here?" he asked in a recent video.

"Harry Maguire gets booed for England, within minutes his captain Harry Kane is coming out saying it's not acceptable, the media is coming out saying it's not acceptable.

"Paul Pogba gets booed at the weekend, Man United captain who has been in that position, radio silence. What's that, I'm waiting to hear something from Harry Maguire, oh don't worry it's just tumbleweed going over this weekend."

The boos Maguire received inside Wembley were considered unacceptable and a number of players and clubs voiced their support.

Goldbridge believes the defender should be offering the same public backing to Pogba, who reacted to the abuse by appearing to cup his ear.

He continued: "Captain of Man United who's been in that position, where he's been booed, he's got his mates in the media to make a big deal about it.

"Press conferences had Premier League managers being asked about Harry Maguire getting booed.

"His teammate, who he is the captain of, gets booed, he says nothing! Absolutely nothing.

"This is the guy that's the leader of Manchester United."

United would beat Norwich 3-2 thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick and they're back in the race for a place in the Premier League's top four.

They travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Tuesday evening, but will do so without Ronaldo after the tragic death of his newborn son on Monday.

Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Fred and Edinson Cavani will also miss the game through injury.

Liverpool are still on for a historic quadruple this season and are one point behind leaders Manchester City.
