The Uruguayan didn't have a goal to show for his efforts but led the line superbly.

Even though he's not been there that long and he's not always a regular, United fans have a formed a special rapport with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli forward.

And Cavani further endeared himself to the United faithful as he celebrated animatedly when McTominay found the net.

Stood just in front of the six yard box, Cavani started wheeling his arms out and dancing wildly as though he had scored the goal.

Cavani has been linked with a move away from United and some fans were extremely worried seeing him waving to supporters following the win over Burnley.

On Monday, when Gary Neville unleashed on Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes for "whinging", he showered Cavani with praise for being a selfless player who puts the team first.

"I always feel better when heโ€™s in the team. he represents the shirt," Neville said on Sky Sports.

"He belongs. Heโ€™s fantastic. I donโ€™t think he wilts in presence of Cristiano Ronaldo or Bruno Fernandes. He stands up to them, he helps the younger players.โ€

In 49 games for United since joining a free, the 34-year-old has found the net on 19 occasions and become a huge hit with the club's fans.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has hinted at playing both he and Ronaldo, who scored twice vs Burnley, as a pair on a more frequent basis.
