"They sent people..." - Romano reveals Man Utd scouted Liverpool target before remarkable Neymar claims

He's wanted by several clubs.

Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Liverpool target Mohammed Kudus, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Kudus, 22, is being monitored by several top clubs in Europe after continuing to impress for Ajax this season.

The midfielder has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 21 games in all competitions for the Dutch club in the current campaign.

He also caught the eye for Ghana at the recent World Cup in Qatar, scoring twice in their group stage win over South Korea.

Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with a January bid for Kudus, while European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in the versatile midfielder.

Man Utd sent scouts to watch Kudus

Romano has now confirmed that earlier this season Manchester United sent scouts to watch Kudus as well as Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, who scored a memorable hat-trick for Portugal at the World Cup.

"I think, at the moment, it's just an interest in the sense that they sent people to scout him and to follow him as they did with Goncalo Ramos," Romano told GiveMeSport.

"So, at the moment, it's not a negotiation with Ajax."

The Independent recently revealed that Everton failed with a £15m bid for Kudus in the summer which was swiftly rejected.

The Sun claim the midfielder is now valued at £40m after his impressive World Cup campaign.

Kudus: Neymar is not better than me

Kudus created headlines ahead of the tournament by claiming that he is as good a player as Neymar after clashing with the Brazil icon in a friendly match.

In an interview with The Guardian, Kudus said: "He's not better than me. He's just a higher-profile player, that's all.

"He was defending his country and I was defending mine. I wasn't about to let him push me around.

"What makes him better, for now, is that he has achieved a lot. I'll get there soon."
