Man Utd transfer news: Erik ten Hag 'interested in signing' former Liverpool target and Jurgen Klopp fan

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus - who is a big fan of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus - previously a key player under the management of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Reus was signed by Klopp at Dortmund in 2012, having spent his youth career at the club. He helped the German side to the Champions League final and earned an individual spot in UEFA's Team of the Year in his first season.

He then recorded an incredible 41 goal contributions in his second campaign, and was named as Dortmund's Player of the Year.

But he missed out on the 2014 World Cup with Germany due to injury - something that would become an unfortunate common theme at international level. He was unavailable for Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup, and suffered from post-season fatigue ahead of Euro 2020.

Although injury issues have affected him at club level, Reus is Dortmund's all-time top scorer, and passed the 20-goal mark in three separate seasons.

He has made 70 league appearances in the last two-and-a-half seasons, and is now attracting Premier League interest.

Man Utd interested in signing Reus

Now 33 years of age, Reus is a target for Erik ten Hag and United, according to a prominent journalist.

CaughtOffside's Christian Falk has reported that the Manchester club are interested in signing the Germany international in the summer, when his Dortmund contract expires. They may face competition from Middle East clubs.

Falk has also claimed that Ten Hag held a meeting with the player's representatives, in which he expressed an interest in bringing the forward to United.

Reus almost moved to the Premier League in the past - but to United's great rivals, Liverpool.

As a key player under Klopp before the departure of the Reds boss in 2015, Reus was always seen as an ideal signing for the German to make when he first took over Liverpool later that same year.

It has never been entirely clear why the move never happened, although his price tag, injury issues and Liverpool's lack of Champions League football in the early days of Klopp's reign have all been circulated by pundits as possible reasons.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror in May 2022 about Liverpool and Klopp, Reus said: "Jurgen is a special person. I remember when I moved to Dortmund and had the first conversation with him.

"When he walks into the room, there's just something in the air. He's charismatic, he's got a lot of energy, and he's just a good guy to talk to privately about other things, not just football.

"He's been doing a great job for years, both here [Dortmund] and in Liverpool. The way he has built the team, built the club, both here and in Liverpool, is immense. The energy that he brings, every day, I think you can only take your hat off to him."
