Blow for Man Utd as Fabrizio Romano reveals contract clause which could prevent transfer

It's a blow for Ten Hag's men.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed a clause in Tammy Abraham’s Roma contract that could prevent him from joining Manchester United.

Last night, after plenty of toil, Wout Weghost netted his first Old Trafford goal, poking a loose ball into the net from six yards against Real Betis.

The Dutchman, who was brought in as a short-term Cristiano Ronaldo replacement in January, has had his finishing called into question since making a loan move to United from Burnley.

Yet Ten Hag heaped praise on Weghorst after the forward’s display against Real Betis. The United boss said: “I think he is doing well. If a striker or as a number 10 in the midfield, he is also bringing good performances.”

Nevertheless, United have been linked with several summer moves for long-term striker options. Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen are two players frequently cited as targets.

Meanwhile, the Athletic claimed United scouts have also been in regular attendance at Roma’s games to monitor Abraham’s progress this season.

However, Chelsea reportedly inserted a clause in Abraham’s deal when the England star moved from Stamford Bridge to Rome that could affect United’s attempts to lure the striker to Old Trafford.

Romano on Abraham

Transfer guru Romano claimed Chelsea have an €80million (£70million) buy-back clause inserted in Abraham's Roma deal.

The journalist said on his Youtube channel: “Abraham is another striker with a special clause in his contract.

“We’ve known about it for two years, ever since he joined Roma because, in that contract between Roma and Chelsea, there was a clause [inserted] just for Chelsea.

“So let me clarify the clause is not valid for other clubs, the clause is not valid for any other English or European club - just for Chelsea. €80million buy-back clause."

Romano added: “At the moment from what I understand nothing is advanced or concrete, so Chelsea have not communicated that they want to trigger that clause and bring the player back.

“We also heard rumours about Manchester United but at the moment there are no concrete talks. But Tammy Abraham is one to watch.”
